DEEP CONDITIONING - THE GAME CHANGER

I learnt to wash my hair the wrong way while growing up and that made me experience dryness and breakage. I used the wrong kind of conditioners too. They only stayed in my hair for a minute or so before I hurriedly washed them all off. It was a bad experience while it lasted.

Fast forward to when I started to unlearn the wrongs and embrace the right techniques, I understood the importance of using the right products each time I touched my hair.

My first deep conditioner was a mixture of egg, onion, and maybe coconut oil. I tried while alone in the house that day and babes, I never tried it again. My reason, the constituents stuck in my hair and I had a hard time removing them.

Don't get me wrong, DIY products work well for many people but I didn't just get it right with deep conditioning. The egg and onion stuck to my hair and I had a horrible stench afterwards. I didn't try that again. EVER!

Next one christmas, I tried using bananas. There was no blender around so I used a grinding stone while everyone giggled at me. This time the banana also stuck too my hair and it took a lot of combing to get it out. I was disappointed again.

Long story short, I gave up on DIY deep conditioners but when on to try packaged products.

After a few reviews I bought Olive oil ORS Replenishing conditioner. I loved it and I guess its still the best I've tried so far. For me, it is the game changer!

My hair felt soft and retained more moisture. I felt the difference in a such short while that I couldn't skip the deep conditioning routine again. It was worth the cost.

Deep conditioning is the process of applying a thicker conditioner to your hair to repair damaged strands, add moisture and prevent breakage. It also helps your strands withstand stress and damage.

Store bought deep conditioners can either be moisture conditioners or protein conditioners depending on their constituents.

Moisture conditioners add moisture to your strands to prevent dryness especially in low porosity hair thereby leaving the hair soft and manageable for days. You should try this at least once a week if you have dry hair.

Protein conditioners help to strengthen your strands by replenishing the protein your strands lack. The hair shaft is made from protein and it is only necessary to strengthen it by adding nutrients. This should however be done maybe once in 6 weeks or as your hair needs.

To identify a deep conditioner, turn to the ingredients on section of the product. A moisture conditioner usually has water as its first ingredient showing it has the highest percentage.
Most importantly, a deep conditioner should require at least 20 minutes to sit in your hair for deeper penetration. If the directions of use says less than that, it might not be a good one.
