LEAVE YOUR SHOES AND FLEE

Image
Have you ever been in a life threatening situation where you had to run for your dear life? Can you imagine someone trying to put her shoes on before escaping from seeming danger when the next moment is completely uncertain? That is a very unwise decision and in the words of my friends "who shoe epp?" There is a scenario in the bible where the word FLEE is used. It is found in II Timothy 2: 22. It says to the young man and woman with a glorious dream 'Flee also youthful lust'.  If you have accidentally entered a house and a hungry dog immediately aims at you, you should understand the meaning of the word 'FLEE'.  It means don't stop to think. JUST RUN. Don't check for your shoes just move AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. LUST is a not to common word in christian circles. People prefer to talk about sin and its consequences. We rarely hear that Lust is the mother of sin (James 1:14 - 15).  When a brother or sister sins, we are quick to judge the behav...

10 MOST IMPORTANT NATURAL HAIR TOOLS

Image
The importance of good hair practices cannot be overemphasized on the journey to healthy, vibrant and thick head of hair. However, to achieve a stress free routine every time you touch your hair, the following tools will prove helpful.  1. Wide tooth comb : We all are familiar with the importance of combs but then the type of comb used matters too. It is more helpful if your comb is specially designed to treat your hair gently. That is the reason why the wide tooth comb is best. Be sure to choose one that wouldn't snap at your strands. 2. Spray bottle : Any naturalista without a spray bottle is not yet a complete naturalista . Moisture is an important component for hair and it is always good when you desire to spritz some water or conditoner into your curls. 3. Denman brush : I have found this to be more friendly to my curls than a comb. It simply glides through while evenly distributing products for better results.  4. Satin scarf/Bonnet : When going to...

INSECURITIES

Image
Nearly every woman on this planet has some sort of insecurities.  It differs from person to person and it comes in varying degrees.  Every human is made a little bit incomplete so that we would not feel superior to others around us. The positive side is that if we view it in the right light, it helps us to be humble. While I was growing up, I thought my lips were too pink and wide and I hated to look into my own pictures.  I strongly convinced myself that I was ugly and unattractive and no one would want to be with me. This terrible thought made me feel awkward around people. I hardly spoke when I'm out of the house. I would never join a discussion except I'm mandated to talk. I felt in addition to being ugly I was dumb.  Recently too, I have been somewhat inhibited in my desire to become a natural hair blogger because I have some setbacks around my edges. I have spent a lot of money on products, I have researched about it and still very little improveme...

DEEP CONDITIONING - THE GAME CHANGER

Image
I learnt to wash my hair  the wrong way  while growing up and that made me experience dryness and breakage. I used the wrong kind of conditioners too. They only stayed in my hair for a minute or so before I hurriedly washed them all off. It was a bad experience while it lasted.  Fast forward to when I started to unlearn the wrongs and embrace the right techniques, I understood the importance of using the right products each time I touched my hair.  My first deep conditioner was a mixture of egg, onion, and maybe coconut oil. I tried while alone in the house that day and babes, I never tried it again. My reason, the constituents stuck in my hair and I had a hard time removing them. Don't get me wrong, DIY products work well for many people but I didn't just get it right with deep conditioning. The egg and onion stuck to my hair and I had a horrible stench afterwards. I didn't try that again. EVER! Next one christmas, I tried using bananas. There was no blen...

HELP! I'M UNDER PRESSURE!!

Image
Have you achieved all your set goals for the year? Are you beginning to feel pressured because you are not close? If your answers are negative, this is definitely for you. Everyday, we find people who are unhappy and frustrated. They feel like that they are being placed under a heavy load. The load is so heavy that some just get crushed beyond recognition. They lose shape, moral, motivation and enthusiasm. They seem to be under some kind of pressure. Lets take a look at the different things that could make us feel under pressure. 1. I'M YET TO BE MARRIED AND I'M NOT IN A RELATIONSHIP!! Ladies are mostly guilty of this. They begin to feel uneasy when many of their friends hook up and get engaged or married. They begin to put pressure on men around them who seem to be interested in them. This is one sure way to chase men away. They will run as fast as their legs will carry them because, who wants to be with a desperate lady? Even if you are 35 years old, digni...

MY CRAVING FOR TRADITIONAL CUISINE

Image
A cuisine is a type of dish that is made with special ingredients following special techniques and is enjoyed by people indigenous to that place. This article explains that some the same traditional cuisine can be enjoyed by different people from the same locality who prepare the same meal in different ways even from family to family.  In essence it is very possible to enjoy a meal just the way Mother alone makes it. Sounds familiar right?? One very familiar example is the Egusi soup common to Nigeria.  It is enjoyed by many tribes although the method of preparation is slightly different from one region to the other. This soup can revive a dead soul... Just the sight of it can remind a son about Mother's kitchen.  It's aroma will send ripples into the very DNA of a long lost child making him try once again to trace his roots. That reminds us of the Prodigal Son 😊 . Some enjoy Egusi soup with pounded yam, others are fine with Eba or Fufu ( Loiloi )...

IT IS GOD'S WILL FOR YOU TO BE HAPPY

Image
DO YOU FEEL SAD NEARLY ALL THE TIME? Christianity all over the world seems to be synonymous with poverty, shame, sorrow and hurt. In fact, I remember thinking it was sinful to have fun as a child. All the fun things in the world seemed to be made for only sinners. Now that's totally untrue!! Good morning this Monday morning. Hope you had a fabulous weekend? Did you have fun? Did you give yourself a nice treat? Are you happy to be at work or school this morning? If you have less than three Yes' to the above questions, you need to stop and check yourself. What on earth is wrong with you? On a scale of 1 to 10 how much are you pleased with yourself? Do you feel excited, motivated, accomplished....?  Hey! You can't afford to start the week unhappy! You may not have everything yet but you sure have something someone lacks even if its a set of teeth. You are most likely reading this article with your own eyes or listening to someone read with your ears. CHEER UP ...

THE WORST WAY TO WASH YOUR HAIR

Image
Many naturals hate to wash their hair or should I say fear to for a lot of reasons. I will share some of mine with you in today's post. Mine was so bad that I rank it under one of my worst memories while growing up. What were your worst childhood memories? When I was younger I dreaded the day my mum would remember to wash my hair.  Yes! I used that word purposely. She remembered only once or twice in a year ( I'm not exaggerating ). It was usually in the middle of a morning bath she would be like, "today, you should wash your hair". I remember how my heart sunk after hearing those words. But why? You may ask... It's a long story. Caution: Grab a cup of tea as I take you down memory lane. The thought of squatting face down for about 20 minutes with water and shampoo running down my face while my dear mother washed my hair was enough to kill me. We both had natural hair and rarely washed it. She did it the best way she knew but I simply hated it.  ...

5 REASONS WHY YOUR HAIR ISN'T GROWING

Image
A lot of ladies constantly ask this question: " Why is my hair not growing? I've spent so much on products and I try to be as gentle as I can be".  "I don't think there is hope for afro hair to grow at all..." The myth that type 4 natural hair cannot grow is a huge misconception that has lingered for a long time. It is however true that other people with less kinky hair types, are better able to retain length better than others. Notice that I said ' retain length ' and not ' grow hair ' because, everyone's hair is growing. Growth rates may differ due to genetics but except your are suffering from a medical condition that stops your hair follicles from producing new hair, your hair is definitely growing. From my previous article where I wrote about  Hair types   you will find that some hair types because of their peculiarity have sebum travel quickly along their hair shaft. While some other hair types are dry and fragile because...

DISCOVER YOUR HAIR TYPE

Image
Good morning dearies, I'm back on this first day in the month of May (Workers' day). I hope you all are enjoying your holiday? As for me, I slept till 6:55AM when I should have signed in for the days work. I feel so relaxed and in that mode, I want to quickly brief you about natural hair types.  In caring for your hair some pieces of information are vital. These will help you make informed decisions concerning products, manipulation techniques and many more.  Natural hair comes mainly in 4 types. Types 1, 2, 3, 4. TYPE 1 hair is straight hair . It is not easily damaged because sebum (an oily secretion from the sebaceous gland) travels down to its roots easily. It is usually oily and greasy. TYPE 2 hair is the Wavy hair type. It is kind of in between straight and curly hair in terms of texture and sheen. TYPE 3 hair is popularly referred to as Curly hair. It is voluminous and mostly climate dependent. Its pattern resembles an 'S' shape. TYPE 4 hair...

I don't think of natural hair as a journey like most people do this is because I have been natural all my life.  Although I have suffered a few setbacks because of lack of information, I'm already recovering from the damage done to my hair over a long period of time. As I share some of my knowledge, I will try as much as possible to be honest and real and will expect the same from you. It would be unnecessary to force your convictions on anyone and I won't do that to you. To enjoy premium preferences, I would appreciate if you subscribed because special attention would be given to subscribers. This would enable exclusive communication. So, till next week (or later this week) when I'll share a full wash day regimen which I religiously follow, kindly drop some questions you would like me to answer.  Do hav...

NATURAL HAIR CRAZE

Image
Welcome back to Princessliz Diaries, today, I want to take you back memory lane up to five to six years ago before natural hair became funky. In my last post, I talked about how timid I was while at Uni because I felt way too old fashioned and ugly partly because I was too natural in my appearance. I was wowed that one guy was attracted to me despite all that so much that I fell in love...Ooh! Read the post here... The first time I fell in love One thing I'm grateful for is that the natural hair craze enlightened us about better ways to care for our hair. We suddenly have more than enough information concerning the texture, porosity, moisture and styles for natural hair. I would try to share some important information concerning natural hair care soon. At least, I no longer suffer from dry hair and my wash days are enjoyable and more frequent because I've learnt how to pamper my hair.  Once upon a time when natural hair was a ' curse ' . I mean it was something to...

THE FIRST TIME I FELL IN LOVE

Image
It's my birthday today and I just want to tell you a story. I hope you enjoy reading it. Feel free to share. Love is a wonderful thing.  From the butterflies in your stomach to the smile that lights up your face at the sight of your fairy tale sweetheart, love has the power to leaves the most difficult person feeling sweet.  I have read books and watched movies about love stories but not one of them prepared me fully for what happened to me a few years ago. In case you are wondering, it was not a crush. I really was in love with this guy. I wanted to hold hands with him across the walk way. I wished he would be my 'forever' (how silly). I felt my  world was beginning to look more colorful.  I wasn't too young, I was a big 18 year old girl studying at the University. At that age, a lot of girls my age had changed boyfriends at least twice or thrice yet I was there obsessing over a guy. It was cool while it lasted, I laugh whenever I recall all tha...
